Career Improvement: How Breast Augmentation Improved this Model’s Career
*Trina (not her real name) is a professional model who has been in the industry for five years. She has booked multiple projects both in print and on the runway. However, there have been many missed opportunities because she was not busty enough for certain projects.
“I’ve always been envious of women with bigger breasts.” She quips, “It feels so frustrating that no matter what I do, no matter what diet or exercise regimen I undergo, I can never achieve the figure that I want.”
This frustration has caused her to sometimes give up on her dreams of being the best model that she can be.
Three years into modeling, she thought of undergoing breast augmentation to end her body troubles once and for all.
“I realized that I can actually make a move to change things instead of just sulking around.”
When asked about her how she decided to go for the procedure, this was her reply: “I asked some of my friends who had undergone breast augmentation and I was amazed at the results. I realized that I wanted that for myself and I could make it happen.”
Most women, like *Trina, have similar issues to face. The good news is that they don’t have to live with these body issues for the rest of their lives.
How It’s Done
There are two types of breast implants available in the market. You can opt to choose between saline or silicone-filled implants. Although some women claim that silicone implants feel more natural compared to saline, it’s all a matter of personal choice. You can discuss these options with your surgeon to know which option best fits you. There are generally one of four breast augmentation techniques your surgeon can employ.
“Meeting with my surgeon for the first time was the life changer for me.” *Trina says candidly. “He discussed all options with me and made me feel at ease to undergo the procedure even if it was my first time ever to undergo any surgery.”
The minimum recommended age to undergo breast implants is 22 years old. Most surgeons will recommend against going through the procedure before this age as women’s bodies, including the breasts, still undergo many physiological changes before this age due to hormonal fluctuations brought about by puberty.
In *Trina’s case, she was 26 years old when she decided to have breast augmentation.
After the initial meeting with your surgeon, you will be scheduled for the operation and will be instructed regarding medicines to avoid prior to the procedure. Generally, you will be asked to stay off NSAID’s and any anticoagulant medications prior to the procedure. This will help avert the possibility of any bleeding and bruising after the procedure. You have to discuss this with your surgeon if you are taking any of these medicines.
On the day of the surgery, you will be prepared for the procedure and may be asked to fast for a few hours prior to the operation. You will be placed under general anesthesia, meaning you will be asleep all throughout the procedure.
“I remember counting backward from five and before I knew it, I was fast asleep. It was over before I knew it. And I woke up a totally new person.”
The Road to Recovery
After the surgery, you will be asked to stay in the recovery room for a few hours.
“I woke up in the recovery room and was being monitored by these friendly nurses. I had to stay there for about three hours.”
After being cleared in the recovery room, you will be transported to your hospital room and will generally be confined in the hospital for an average of three days to monitor your wound healing and look out for any possible complications such as bleeding or hematoma (bruising). As with any operation, there will always be a risk for complications. Staying in the hospital for close monitoring will help steer clear from these complications.
On the third day post-operation, *Trina was sent home with a clean bill of health. “I was so excited to go home with these new babies.” She said referring to her breasts.
“After the surgery, I had to wear a surgical bra for about a week.” *Trina shares about her post-op experience. “Then I transitioned to wearing a sports bra for additional support.”
When asked if it was painful, *Trina winces. “There was some pain for quite a while, but it was a manageable pain that over-the-counter painkillers helped manage.”
After the surgery, you will be asked to avoid any strenuous activity or any heavy lifting for about six weeks.
After a week and a half after the procedure, *Trina was up and about and was back on her feet. She didn’t know that she was about to land the biggest modeling contract of her life after that.
Life After the Implants
“I walked in on a casting call for a big swimsuit brand after the surgery.” *Trina recalls with much excitement. “I was hesitant at first since I was never cast in any swimsuit campaign since I started my career.”
*Trina received a call shortly after walking out of the casting room. She got the job, and it was the biggest job offer she had since she started her career.
“Undergoing breast augmentation changed the way I feel about myself. Now I don’t feel any envy towards other models who have big busts, and I can now land jobs that I previously thought unattainable.”
She says that the surgery improved her career and also gave her a new-found self-confidence. Now she can achieve greater heights now more than ever before.
“It’s not just the physical look that we’re after.” She said, in closing. “It’s the overall effect of a sense of confidence in who you are and how you face the world. Choosing to go for breast augmentation is a personal choice and must not be taken negatively. If it makes you happy, then go for it.”
