CHIN AUGMENTATION

A chin augmentation refers to refinement/improvement of the bone contour of the chin area. This is usually accomplished by placement of a fitted "implant" directly on the bone of the chin, well below the skin. This procedure is usually done to augment an underprojected chin.

The restoration of facial harmony is the goal of chin augmentation. Chin augmentation can be used to define an underdeveloped chin, or give it more prominence. Interestingly, the shape of the chin is related to nose size. That is, a small chin may make a large nose more noticeable, and vice versa. Often, rhinoplasty and chin implant are done together. Chin augmentation can also be performed at the time of neck or facelift, to help better define the jawline.

CHIN AUGMENTATION PROCEDURE

Chin Augmentation can be done with 2 procedures

01

A small incision will be made underneath shin area. This procedure is less popular because it can leave scar mark after the operation.

02

A small incision is made inside the mouth around gum and lower lip area. Through this incision, the cosmetic surgeon creates space 2-3 cm. for the chin implant and fits it around the chin bone. This procedure is the most common and more popular because nobody will see the scars.

If you are bothered by your recessed or “weak” chin, or you feel your facial features lack proportion, chin implant surgery can help you feel more confident in your appearance. Specifically, chin augmentation can:

  • Improve facial harmony by bringing chin into better proportion with other features
  • Correct a weak or recessed chin
  • Improve definition of the neck and jawline
  • Help reduce the appearance of a full or “double” chin caused by a small chin bone

PROCEDURE

  1. Anesthesia with sedation is applied.
  2. A small incision is made inside the mouth around gum and lower lip area. Through this incision, the cosmetic surgeon creates space 2-3 cm. for the chin implant then place the silicone the selected position.

A surgeon will stitches incisions with dissolved silk. Typically takes approximately 1 hour to perform; however, if you are having additional procedures, operating time will increase accordingly to the facial shape.
